Services for Homeless Families

CHGM works with neighbors, congregations, and organizations in the DC community to provide resources for families and individuals who are homeless or in crisis so that they may lead healthy, fulfilling and productive lives.  Our supportive services promote self-reliance so that all of our neighbors have the opportunity to live safely with opportunity and justice.

Shirley’s Place Day Hospitality Day Center is the only daytime drop-in center in DC for families with children of all ages.  In addition to the showers, laundry, and restroom facilities, we offer a place for workshops, respite, light meals, and case management.

–  The Social Services Office located at Shirley’s Place assists neighbors in crisis with rent, mortgage, utilities, food, transportation, and medical expenses, as well as case management and crisis intervention.

– Our Life Skills and Job Training workshops assist clients in learning or sharpening the appropriate and responsible problem-solving behaviors used in the management of their personal affairs. Personal affairs include health, finances, parenting, mental health, social skills, and much more.
