Shirley’s Place

13 - 1

Capitol Hill Group Ministry’s staff and program participants celebrated the Grand Opening of Shirley’s Place on March 4, 2007. The newly renovated Day Hospitality Center was renamed Shirley’s Place for the late Shirley Smith Anderson, a long-time Capitol Hill resident and social justice activist. The center provides homeless guests with a safe, healthy environment and opportunities to achieve self-reliance.

Shirley’s Place is the only daytime drop-in center in DC for families with children of all ages!  We are proud to have served 2,355 individuals in 2011, a 103% increase since 2010, and will continue to provide daytime hospitality for Ward 6 all year long, Monday-Friday.  All are welcome as we seek to provide our neighbors with opportunities for healthy, fulfilling and productive living.

“If we find a way to reach each other, we will find heart and joy in it, and we will find quiet. If we pull together we will endure.”

-Shirley Smith Anderson, long-time Capitol Hill resident and social justice activist
