Shelter Plus Care (SPC)
Capitol Hill Group Ministry’s Permanent Housing program, Shelter Plus Care (SPC), is designed to provide shelter and supportive services on a long-term basis for homeless neighbors living with dual diagnoses. We provide ongoing resources so these individuals may still have the opportunity to experience stability, and lead healthy, fulfilling and productive lives. Families in SPC receive intensive case management, regular home visits, and workshops in addition to subsidized housing to improve their quality of life and move towards higher self-reliance.
Our staff works with our clients and partners to provide referrals to other programs for employment, education, child care, substance abuse treatment, mental health support, and legal assistance. This ongoing support provides much-needed consistency for the children in our families and ensures follow-through with their individualized healthcare needs. Case Managers also identify the individual emergency needs of our clients to address transportation, food, and clothing issues as well as coordinate directly with landlords.
In response to the needs of the most complex homeless populations last year, SPC provided services for 26 Families, including 46 children. Our clients have had success with employment training, substance abuse treatment, and even sending their children off to college!
CHGM’s housing program participants are selected on a referral basis through the Virginia Williams Resource Center. Homeless families and individuals in Washington, DC looking for shelter services should contact:
