We are always looking for new volunteers! We have many opportunities available; we hope that we can find one that is a good fit for you. For more information on any of our volunteer opportunities, please call 202.544.0631 or email us at info@chgm.net.

Creative Child Care

Our Congregation Based Shelter Program needs creative and patient volunteers to provide youth enrichment activities for children (ages 2-14) while their parents are involved in life skills workshops and training. While our parents are learning new skills, you can help the children explore and grow! Volunteers are needed on Saturday mornings from 10:30am - 12:30pm.

Life Skills and Workshop Facilitation

Each week our parents participate in life skills workshops of all types. Programs have included yoga, stress reduction techniques, positive parenting skills, interviewing for success, developing your computer skills, budgeting and financial management, nutrition on a budget, navigating the healthcare system, and much more. Talk to our staff about facilitating a small group discussion or series in your area of expertise. Sat mornings 10:30am – 12:30pm.

Heavy Lifting

Help us deliver furniture through Furniture for Friends. Volunteers are need for a once a month pickup and delivery of items for our families moving into transitional housing or setting up their households. Heavy lifting is involved, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Usually one Saturday per month, this labor of love is perfect for a one-time service day for a group or a regular commitment for an individual.

Supporting through Sorting

The Family Resource Center is seeking volunteers to help sort and display clothing for our community Clothes Closet at Potomac Gardens. Set a time at your convenience (and ours) Monday – Friday during business hours to ready the clothes for our neighbors.

Tutoring

Mission Possible is looking for tutors to assist students ages 5 to 12 with their homework. Volunteers are needed one day a week, from 4-6 pm to provide homework support in basic reading, writing, spelling, and math. Occasional opportunities to accompany the children on educational and cultural field trips around the City.

Looking for a larger commitment? Email us if you would consider becoming a mentor and making a long term difference in the life of a child.
